One Nil to the Brinklow

A soggy muddy morning at Wolston saw us battle to a one nil victory over Fenny Compton. This was the home leg of a back to back set of fixtures that saw us beat them 4-1 in their back garden but a combination of a sticky pitch and maybe a littel complacency  resulted in a tough and frsutrating morning of football.

The game didn't start too well when the ref awarded a nothing penaly (handball but not handball if you know what I mean)  but the reliable Lachie pulled off a fantastic penalty save to deny the visitors an early lead. Through the early exchanges Lachie was called on upon several times to keep the home net intact, we defended very deep and found it difficult to remove the pressure from our own half. In phases we played some good football but with virtually zero end product until Jessie scored from a powerful shot which could only be palmed by the keeper into the back of the net.

In the second half  we played better particularly when we got the ball down on the floor but agin we didnt really threated the opposition keeper. The game flowed end to end until one of the opposition got a straight red for foul and abusive language which then turned into violent conduct when he tried to attack our left back through our linesman after the red card was issued.

After that we looked comfortable and saw the game out.

MOTM went to Nathan  for some great interceptions along the back four , the effort award to Lachie for again some great shot stopping and brave keeping putting his head where most wouldn't.

A hard fought but welcome three points that move us into mid table, we need to show more consistency and composure but there is no lack of effort from our players. Roll on next Sunday
