Brinklow were left beaten but not outplayed by Jag Daimler as they were knocked out of the Stan Auld’s Cup. Having beaten the visitors five – nil in a just ten days earlier Brinklow must have relished this opportunity to progress to the next round.
The game appeared to have started well for the home team after Ollie Chater rattled the woodwork after latching onto an Alex Platt cross on 3 minutes. A minute later the visitors went a head after a long ball was played over the top, between the two Brinklow defenders and fired home from the edge of the penalty area. Brinklow managed an equaliser on 25 minutes when Alex Platt set up Reece Blackmore who hit a sweet strike from just inside the box, to sneak the ball just inside the right post. The second half saw a goal rush when three goals were scored in as many minutes. Brinklow fell behind on 57 minutes when a visiting player got around the back of the defence to place a low cross into the area which was sent to the back of the net. Ollie Chater set up Alex Platt who took the ball wide past a full back and shot into the top right corner of the net to equalise a minute later. Any hopes of a Brinklow victory received a dent shortly afterwards when Ian Judd was adjudged to have handled in the penalty area with the visitors scoring from the spot – kick. Brinklow pressed for an equaliser in the last half hour of the game but the visitors held on to secure their passage into the draw for the next round.
