Coventry United had a successful first season gaining promotion to the First Division of the Midland Combination. This game provided a useful barometer of how Brinklow would fare in a league that they have aspirations to join.
Brinklow went into the lead after 12 minutes when Liam Cawley broke through the home defence and cut into the box to set up Danny Nelson for a close range finish. Coventry were awarded a penalty on 41 minutes but Jason Fox managed to get a hand to Muziwandile Nduna’s spot kick to preserve Brinklow’s lead.
The home side equalised on 51 minutes when Daniel Stokes set up Nduna to fire home from the edge of the box. The later stages of the game saw Brinklow in the ascendency with Andy Gordon making penetrative runs down the right wing. Brinklow were awarded a penalty on 86 minutes after Andy Gordon was upended in the box. The spot-kick was clinically dispatched by Danny Nelson. With two minutes to go a defence-splitting pass from Reece Blackmore set up Liam Cawley who coolly rounded the keeper to make it 3-1.
